I saw this guy on the NY Times website this morning, its a Dumbo Octopus, and it makes me think theres an opportunity to sell cute deep sea pets to anyone who could afford some kind of crazy high-pressure fish tank.
The article is about modern photography finally being able to get pictures of deep sea creatures that had only been drawn in the past. All right, I’m a bit of a nerd, but I think its interesting, and even if you don’t have a trace of nerd in you, the pictures are cool.
One of the scientists, Laurence Madin, is quoted speaking about the creatures when brought up to land:
“This unattractive jello-like mass,” he writes, “is the unfair land version of amazing and delicate creatures that can display their true beauty only in their natural watery environment.”
So in the spirit of that quote, todays reason to celebrate is not being cruelly pulled from your natural environment. If you have been cruelly pulled from your natural environment, thats really too bad, and you can celebrate the knowledge that there are cute little Dumbo Octopi swimming in the deeps of the ocean.
